Home Grape Varieties
Caricagiola

History

Red grape variety, probably from Sardinia, in particular, could come from Gallura. The Foëx in 1909, mentions the vine Carcajola , imported but grown in Corsica from Sardinia. Its resemblance to the black Vermentino, would suggest a second hypothesis from Liguria. "Carcaghjolu black" means "that gives a lot of black grapes." Varieties with characteristics very similar to Caricagiola are the Mourvèdre Bonvedro or cultivated in Portugal and Ribot or Coatendra, which is located in Spain.
