Drink now

An indifferent vintage with few worthwhile wines

Weather Conditions

A warm spring laid the basis for an abundant crop, but a relatively cool and unusually wet summer followed by steady rain in the first part of September compromised quality. The harvest was spread out over a long period. Producers who picked later in the month, after the weather had improved, got better results but everywhere in the region severe selection was necessary.

Best Appellations
A difficult year with patchy results. The wines generally had attractive colour but lacked the concentration of the best vintages, and with very few exceptions were definitely for drinking young. Virtually no Riservas were made in either Chianti or Montepulciano. Brunello came out best although there too the wines lacked punch.

Best Producers
At Montalcino Lisini, Poggio Antico, Costanti, Fuligni and Salvioni, whose Cerbaiola is still drinking surprising well, all made good wines.
